DAVAO CITY — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 claims the assessment of Vice President Leni Robredo that the administration’s drug war is a “massive failure” showed her ignorance on the issue.

PRO XI director Police Brigadier General Filmore Escobal said, Robredo’s revelations only showed Robredo does not understand the mechanics and the campaign itself, as she pointed out the recent survey conducted by the Social Weather Station which showed that 82 percent of the Filipinos approved the war against illegal drugs.

In a statement released on Wednesday, January 8, Escobal emphasized Robredo failed to grasp the objective and comprehend the data because her stint as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) was short-lived.

President Rodrigo Duterte designated Robredo as ICAD co-chair but fire her after 18 days only , saying he did not trust her especially on confidential information about the war on drugs,

“It is unfortunate, that our good VP failed to recognize the efforts of the police officers who have sacrificed even their our own lives just to stop the proliferation, use and trade of illegal drugs,” Escobal emphasized.

In the case of PRO XI, Escobal said, since 2016 up to December 2019, the regional command conducted 5,878 successful anti-drug operations responsible of the apprehension of 6,459 illegal drug violators and neutralization of 290 illegal drug personalities.

In the same period, he said, the command conducted 78,304 house visits through “Toktok Hangyo” (“toktok,” or knock, and “hangyo,” or plead”) recorded a total of 66,131 arrested/surrendered drug personalities through the implementation of its Double Barrel Reloaded.

Escobal said, The statistics and the SWS survey result reflects a wide gap between Robredo’s statement and the government’s effort as against the confidence of the Filipino people on the campaign. Adz Morell/NewsLine.ph
