Recently-elected barangay officials killed in separate incidents across Mindanao

DAVAO DEL NORTE – In a recent incident, the newly elected Barangay Kapitan of Barangay Datu Abdul in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, was fatally shot inside his own vehicle at approximately 3 pm on November 7. The victim, identified as Engineer Paul Albert Saquian from Barangay New Visayas, Panabo, was returning home when he was attacked by two armed individuals riding a motorcycle. Saquian sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rivera Hospital. The police are currently investigating the possible motives behind the crime.

Another newly elected Barangay Kagawad from Barangay Dolores in Antipas, Cotabato Province, became a victim of a shooting incident. Edmar Perero, a resident of the area, was shot and killed by unidentified suspects. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, and the victim’s family is demanding justice for their loss.

Davao City – A security guard in Toscana Subdivision, Barangay Bago Gallera, Davao City, lost his life in a shooting incident involving another security guard. James Canumay, 21 years old, was fatally shot by his colleague, Ibrahim, who was on duty with him. Canumay suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was found bleeding profusely by Ibrahim. Abdul Rahmin Padasan, an individual associated with the victim, was seen leaving the scene on a motorcycle. Canumay was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but did not survive his injuries. Police suspect that jealousy may have been the motive for the shooting, as the suspect was discovered to have been texting the victim’s live-in partner. Authorities have initiated a hot pursuit operation against the suspect.
