DAVAO CITY, Philippines —Two gunmen on motorbike fatally shot a senior citizen who was aboard a taxi along the Circumferential Road near the Chinese cemetery around 11:00 AM on June 19.
Rey, the driver described the passenger who was sitting in the front seat was silent during their travel and didn’t notice the motorbike.
“Natingala nalang ko na naay nibuto unya nabuak and windshield, sa akong kahadluk ni-ambak ko, pero wala ko nakadagan sa akong kahadluk, nitago ko sa likud sa purtahan sa akong taxi, Nakita naku nga gibalikan gipusil og otro ang akong pasahero”, the driver told Newsline.
(I was surprised that something exploded and my windshield was broken. I jumped in fear, but I couldn’t run, I hid behind the door of my taxi, I saw that my passenger was shot again).
The area is secluded and no one witnessed the incident.
The victim, according to the driver, asked to be delivered to his house in Ladislawa Villa in Barangay 19-B.
Police theorized that the armed motorcycle riders followed the taxi passenger from the Ecoland Terminal and opened fire upon reaching the location.
The elderly victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The taxi driver also suffered injuries from broken windshield glass, receiving wounds to his stomach.
