DAVAO CITY –— Fed up for over 40 years of waiting and continued talks about the impending construction of the P19.3 billion Davao-Samal connector, residents of Island Garden City of Samal have adopted and wait and see attitude.

Christina, 65, a grandmother of nine (9), said she was teen-ager when she heard about the planned Davao-Samal bridge “I grew up dreaming for that bridge, I used to fantasize and wish for its realization, but loo, I am now a senior citizen and I haven’t seen a post either.”

Samal City Mayor Al David Uy in an interview with Newsline said “I hope this time it will be for real since the loan agreement has been signed. I do not know what exact date will be the groundbreaking.”

Uy stressed, like other residents of Mindanao he expects that the project will materialize “this time.

Mario Apale, a visitor of Samal said “my relatives in Samal are excited but not that excited as before, they just shrugged their shoulders when they heard about the July plan, like them, I have to wait and see because the promise has been their for decades.”

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) national office has announced that the project will be inaugurated on July, which is just days away, but no one knows exactly when.

The loan agreement between the Republic of the Philippines and Republic of China was signed on June 13, 2022, the agreement says the Philippine government will pay the loan in 20 years.
