DAVAO CITY – The liquor ban earlier imposed by the local government in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) in Davao del Norte will be lifted and regulated beginning October 16 subject with conditions.

Mayor Al David Uy issued Executive Order (EO) No. 321 on Thursday, October 7, lifting the 24-hour liquor ban. With the issuance of EO 321, the selling, distribution and consumption of any liquor and alcoholic beverages shall only be allowed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The executive order also provides that “drinking of any alcoholic beverages shall only be permitted within the confines of the household and in the resorts for those guests officially booked thereat.”

It is prohibited to serve and consume liquor and any other alcoholic or intoxicating drinks in all public places, including but not limited to beerhouses, videoke bars, nightclubs, bars, beer gardens and restaurants. Uy issued EO 314, imposing a 24-hour liquor ban from Aug. 31 to Sept. 30, due to the local transmission of the COVID-19’s Delta variant.

On September 30, Uy issued EO 319 extending the liquor ban until October 15, 2021; Uy said “there is a need to gradually allow some economic activities as the City transitions to the new normal.”-Taher G. Solaiman
