DAVAO CITY (June 21) — Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday ordered the immediate stop on unauthorized sale of grocery products and other stuff recovered from the burned NCCC Mall.

The order came after an enterprising store owner in Purok 9, Tacunan, Tugbok District started selling salvaged grocery items from the NCCC mall Wednesday.

Police identified the seller as Benjardi Belardo Bermudo. He was reportedly hired to demolish the burned mall on June 18, but ended up selling the goods, some of which were partially damaged.

On Wednesday, residents of Tacunan, and nearby villages flocked to the area to buy the good, which was sold at a lower price.

Some of the food items sold were way past their expiration dates. A press statement released by the City Information Office states, “Mayor Sara has ordered the City Legal Office to issue a prohibition to sell the recovered items for lack of business permit.”

The same statement stressed “Kung way business permit para mamaligya retail, di man puwede mamaligya,” she said.

She also instructed the City Health Office to immediately and properly dispose of the expired items.

Davao City Police Director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum reported that the Tugbok Police Station has already shut down the makeshift store that displayed and sold the recovered products.-Reeya Nuñez/NewsLine.ph
