GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The provincial government of Sarangani has rolled out a mobile application commissioned by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the United Nations Development Programme to help monitor government projects in the area.
Gerald Faciol, the assistant provincial administrator for operations, said on Tuesday that the application mainly allows residents to give feedback on the status of local infrastructure projects, especially in terms of progress, timeliness, and effectiveness.
Dubbed as “Development Live” or DevLIVE, the application was formally launched in the province on Monday.
“DevLIVE is like a citizens’ monitoring. It allows anyone to monitor and report on their local government’s projects related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said in a statement.
The application, which was developed by 98Labs Inc., can be downloaded via Google Play for Android and the App Store for Apple mobile devices.
Faciol lauded the DILG and UNDP for commissioning the development and rollout of the application, citing it will help empower open participation by the people when it comes to the implementation of infrastructure projects.
He said it is a platform for citizens to air their concerns and grievances on the implementation of various projects and are assured that these will reach the attention of the implementing agencies.
In line with its rollout, mentors from the G-HUBS or Holistic Undertaking Bridging Solutions for Governance visited the province on Monday to train civil society organizations (CSO) and members of the Provincial Project Monitoring Committee (PPMC) on its support mechanisms.
Carlito Uy, G-HUBs XII mentor, said the initiative is aimed to help the province organize its own “citizen monitors.”
“The citizen monitor is an empowerment tool for the citizens of Sarangani to be able to look into the progress as well as the proper utilization of the funds downloaded by the DILG for the provincial road projects,” he said.
He said CSOs and PPMCs can use DevLIVe to monitor the status of pending provincial road projects. Newsline.ph
