KIDAPAWAN CITY — Police and anti-narcotics operatives seized improvised weapons and illegal drugs during the implementation of an early surprise inspection Thursday at the North Cotabato District Jail in Kidapawan City.

Col. Maximo Layugan, North Cotabato police director, said police personnel, members of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and jail guards conducted the joint “Oplan Galugad” and “Greyhound Operation” at about 5 a.m.

Layugan said the activity aims to maintain a drug-cleared jail facility and to ensure the safety of each detainee and to flush out contraband that put the safety of inmates and jail officers in danger.

“We recovered pliers, knives, iron and other deadly weapons, mobile phones and other gadgets that are prohibited inside the jail facility,” Layugan said in a statement.

Several small packets of shabu were also recovered, he added. Layugan assured that Oplan Galugad would be carried out on a regular basis. (Edwin O. Fernandez
