CEBU CITY, Philippines — A former City Councilor of Talisay City was shot dead outside his residence in Mansueto Village, Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City Wednesday at about 6:20 in the evening, March 21, 2018.

Police identified the victim as Emilio Go, who served as City Councilor of Talisay in 2002 to 2008. He sustained five gunshot wounds, the fatal bullet hit his head.

Neighbors of Go told police investigators,  they saw an unidentified person near the family’s compound before the incident, the same person immediately fled the crime scene aboard a white vehicle after the incident.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director, Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, confirmed that Go is among the list of personalities suspected to be involved in the drug trade.

Okubo said they are now focusing their investigation on illegal drug trade rivalry as possible motive behind the assassination.

Okubo said they are also looking into the possible connection between the killing of Go and the ambush-slay attempt on Bureau of Jail Management and Penology official Edwin Sarcon in Barangay Guadalupe here last Monday.

“The two incidents could be related as most of the murder victims these days were involved in drugs,” said Okubo, who has already ordered the Talisay City Police Station to dig deeper into their investigation.

Before Go, three other people with alleged links to illegal drugs were also shot in Metro Cebu including Sarcon, who once served as Talisay City Jail deputy warden.

Ronda Municipal Vice Mayor Jonnah John Ungab, legal counsel of self-confessed drug lord Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr., was killed last Feb. 19 in Cebu City and PO2 Romeo Bolaño was murdered on March 13 in Minglanilla.

Go faced accusations of being involved in illegal gambling activities. In 2003, the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas conducted a probe on him after two police officers accused him of being involved in illegal gambling operations.

His name was implicated in the illegal numbers game (Swertres)  in Talisay City.

His son, Steve, was allegedly a household name in the illegal drugs trade not only in Talisay but in Cebu City as well. Steve is currently serving time at the Talisay City Jail for illegal drug offenses.-Paul Allegre/Newsline.ph
