DAVAO CITY (August 23) — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will continue to provide P5,000  cash assistance to  all Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who were affected by the  runway mishap which affected their flights.

In an advisory,  the DFA announced they were able to release cash assistance to 86 overseas Filipino workers who failed to leave for their jobs abroad as a result of Friday’s accident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The 86 OFWs who presented themselves at the DFA Office of Migrant Workers Affairs Wednesday  afternoon each received P5,000.00 in financial assistance.

The DFA also released  the assistance until 10 p.m. Wednesday night,  to  those stranded OFWs at NAIA Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

But for those who were able to leave the country earlier,  and have returned to their host countries, the DFA said  they may also avail themselves of financial assistance at Philippine embassies and consulates general abroad by presenting their passports, original and reissued tickets, certificates of employment, and overseas employment certificates.

Hundreds of OFW’s  were  stranded after a Xiamen plane skidded off the  NAIA runway Thursday last week causing flight cancellations for almost 48 hours.

Until now, hundreds are still stranded at the NAIA since the flight schedule has yet to return to it’s normal operations.

The DFA  reminded that the claimants to personally appear before their embassies and consular offices abroad.

For those stranded OFW, who are still at the NAIA,  the DFA-OMWA team can be found at the public assistance desks in the airport.-NewsLine
