DAVAO CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) — Three suspected members of the New Peoples Army and a member of CAFGU Active Auxiliary were killed in the hinterlands of Makilala town late Sunday night, January 21, 2018..
Rudy Caoagdan, Makilala Municipal mayor said still undetermined number of rebels stormed the detachment of sitio Garing, Barangay Luayon.
Luayon is a village, located nine kilometers away from the national highway.
Caoagdan said four people were killed, three form the rebels and one CAFGU while five others were wounded
“The firefight happened after the rebels attacked a CAFGU detachment, the casualties are now in the funeral homes while the wounded are confined at the hospital, we facilitated retrieval of the victims, I mean both from the rebels and the CAFGU,” the Mayor said.
Caoagdan identified the slain CAA as Jolito Apila, while those confined at the hospital are identified as Edgar Delima, Oligario Rollurta, Raffy Aguanan, Jimmy Gonzaga, Jose Angcog and Joel Daguan, they sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The cadavers of the three rebels were claimed by their families at the funeral homes, he added “One from Davao del Sur, one from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat and the other one is from Malabuan, here in my town.”
Residents told Caoagdan they heard loud exchange of fire at about 11:00 Sunday night.
The military requested for aerial support which lasted until 5:00 in the morning Monday, January 22, 2018.
Newly installed 39th IB Commander Lt. Col. Rhojun Rosales, told reporters the rebels harassed the CAFGU detachment.
Rosales said the rebels used the residents as human shields which complicated the military operations.
The military asked for artillery support which saved the CAFGu’s trapped during the clash.
Renato Corre, Department of Education (DepEd) of Makilala West said farm workers from nearby villages were not allowed entry yesterday morning as hot pursuit operatiom was ongoing.
During the DepEd meeting. Corre said , Jose Caparida, DepEd supervisor of Makilala central district suspended the classes in Luayon only in the afternoon as the military was clearing the area.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
