Lapeña fired 641 Bureau of Customs officials and employeesPosted on
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña sacked 641 Bureau of Customs officials and employees starting October 2017 due to corrupt practices.
The Bureau of Customs is among the most corrupt agencies in government, an image that Lapeña wants to change.
The figure is reflective of how massive corruption eats up the agency personnel.
Firing corrupt officials and employees is a process “We must follow an internal procedure, we have to follow procedures because some of them are covered by the Civil Service law, but those who have been identified and caught red handed -must bid goodbye, ” he emphasized.
Lapeña, whose image in Davao region is never tainted with corruption until his retirement a police general revealed he is not yet convinced that his agency is clean as of now as he said can still sniff corrupt practices among his people.
“I know who they are and they are still doing it, sooner or later we will catch up with them,” Lapeña added.
Terminating erring Customs officials and personnel is not enough, he said “I will be filing administrative complaint or dismissal from service,” he stressed.
Lapeña created Internal Affairs and Integrity Unit “To prosecute Customs officials and employees who will be found violating the law.“-ezc/Newsline.ph
