DAVAO CITY (July 14) —— Four persons were killed while 28 other were injured , when the brake of the 6-wheeler truck carrying 38 persons malfunctioned while traversing the Malungon, Saranggani Highway, Friday, July 13 at around 11:35 in the morning.
The victims were residents of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, heading towards Maasim town in Saranggani to attend a wedding today, July 14.
Isagani Palma, Malungon Municipal Information office in a faceboook post said “The fatalities were confirmed dead on the spot while another was declared DOA by attending physicians.”
Palma said the road concreting is ongoing along Buayan Bridge in Brgy Malandag, Malungon, Sarangani Province, July 13.
In the same report, Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Jessie Dela Cruz identified the fatalities as certain Joan Montecino, Sergio Hemoros, Cristoto Fernandez and Loreto Villanueva.”
While other news report claim four were killed.
Dela Cruz said the victims were from Maragaac, Kiblawan, Davao Del Sur and was moving toward Maasim town in Sarangani to attend a scheduled Saturday wedding when the incident took place.
The NDBC News report quoted Police Superintendent Aldrin Gonzales, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 12, saying “It was a case of malfunctioned brake system.”
Gonzales said the Fuso cargo truck driven by Bebing Tacyawan was heading to Maasim, also in Sarangani when the highway crash happened at 11:45 a.m.
One of the survivors who introduce herself as Jessamie told radio reporters, that the driver alerted everyone that the truck’s brake system has malfunctioned and that he has lost control of the vehicle along the descending portion of the highway.
The injured passengers were rushed by the responding soldiers to a hospital in General Santos City. EZC/NewsLine.ph
