DAVAO CITY (October 13) — We Won! shouted the Philippine delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Council in New York, Friday, October 12.
The Department of Foreign Affairs in a press statement said “The Philippines won its bid to keep its seat at the United Nations Human Rights Council during elections held in New York on Friday October 12.”
UN Permanent Representative to the UN Teodoro Locsin Jr., led the Philippine delegation.
Locsin is the incoming Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Philippines won a seat despite the campaign launched by the New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) to oppose the candidacy of the Philippines for the UNCHR.
The HRW has been criticizing the government on the death caused by the war on drugs and the reported extra judicial killings.
But despite their opposition, Philippines won a seat at the UNCHR.-NewsLine.ph
