DAVAO CITY (February 28) –– A 24-year-old Filipino student from Queensford College in Brisbane drowned off Flinders Beach in North Stradbroke last Monday, February 25.
The Department of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, February 28, extended its deepest sympathy to the family of a Filipino student.
In her report to the Home Office, Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega said authorities in Queensland informed the Philippine Embassy in Canberra of the death of the student.
The Office of Migrant Workers Affairs is touch with the family of the victim who have requested the Department’s assistance in the repatriation of his remains.
This is the fifth drowning incident abroad involving Filipinos since the start of the year. Two Filipinos earlier drowned in separate incidents in New Zealand while a couple also drowned while on their honeymoon in the Maldives. –ezc/NewsLine.ph
