Dead whale found, dynamite fishing citedPosted on
DAVAO CITY (April 1) — A dead whale was found floating along the shoreline of Barangay Budbud, Bunawan this city, Sunday morning, March 31.
Darrell Blatchley, director of D’ Bone Collector Museum Inc., said the 10.4ft long Pygmy Sperm Whale, could have been hit when fishermen used dynamite in their fishing activity.
The Necropsy showed “one fishing hook and line but nothing inside the stomach so possible, dynamite fishing casualty,” he said in his post.
Based on record, Blatchley said, it was the second whale found dead in two weeks and the fourth in three months.
Budbud shore is thickly populated with Muslims settlers and it is facing the Samal Island.
Residents in the areas helped personnel of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to load the dead whale for autopsy.-Reeya Nuñez/ Newsline.ph
