DAVAO CITY (April 23) — It was a disaster in the offing but vigilant civilians quickly informed the army and police about the ‘unfamiliar things’ which caught their attention placed inside and outside a chapel it turned out to be an improvised explosive device.
Resident of Barangay Pimbalayan, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat Monday morning, April 22. noticed wrapped objects inside the chapel they used during the Holy Week.
They immediately called the police, who immediately dispatched bomb experts.
Captain Herman Luna, municipal police chief of Lambayong said “The army bomb experts were preparing to detonate one of the bombs went off at about 10:00 in the morning.”
The suspects used a mobile phone as triggering device.
“Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the incident,” Luna said, adding that the chapel’s ceiling, made of corrugated metal sheets, bore holes when hit by shrapnel.
The chapel was used during the Holy Week.
As of presstime, no one has claimed responsibility over the bombing attempt.-ezc/Newsline.ph
