DAVAO CITY – About 1,200 Filipinos overseas in 43 countries and regions have been found positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) said the Department of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
On Friday, April 24, the DFA reported 63 new cases.
The report came from across the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Middle East/Africa. In contrast to yesterday’s figures, the rates of new confirmed cases at 5.61% and new deaths at 9.62% as of today are higher than the rate of confirmed recoveries at 4.25%.
With today’s pronouncement extending the ECQ in NCR and several “high-risk” areas in the country, the DFA, through its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with local health authorities and agencies as they implement measures to “flatten the curve” of the COVID-19 pandemic in cooperation with our nationals abroad. The DFA likewise maintains its commitment to providing our people with the necessary assistance.
DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said compared to the previous figures, Meñez said the rates of new confirmed cases at 5.61 percent and new deaths at 9.62 percent are higher than the rate of confirmed recoveries at 4.25 percent.
As of Friday, the recoveries have increased to 319 and the death toll to 177, two of whom were recorded in Asia and the Pacific, 59 in Europe, 13 in the Middle East/Africa, and 103 in the Americas.
The department assured it would continue providing assistance to overseas Filipinos as needed.-Newsline
