Anti-Terror Law vital tool in securing the city-TF-Davao CommanderPosted on
DAVAO CITY –— Colonel Consolidito Yecla, the Commander of Task Force Davao said the recently signed Anti-Terrorism Law is one of the vital tools in securing the city.
“Anti-Terrorism Law should not be feared. Instead, it should be embraced by Davaoeños practicing the culture of security to protect the city against terror,” he stressed.
But some human rights groups and political quarters viewed the law as a tool to scare government critics citing possible warrantless arrest.
But for Yecla, “the Anti-terrorism law will strengthen the Culture of Security that has become a lifestyle of Davaoeños. If the Anti-Terror Law was enacted decades ago, we should not have lost the lives of 79 Davaoeños and some of its visitors and we should not have more than 400 injured Davaoeños living in pain until today because of the permanent physical and psychological scars of the bombings that hit Davao City since the 1980s,” Yecla said
He urged peace-loving citizens “To stay in their conviction and not be influenced or persuaded by the few people who have no concern about the feelings of Davaoeños who have lost their love ones during the terror attacks in Davao City”.
Instead of attacking the law based on imagined fear, Yecla said “Let not the imaginations of the few of the negative side in the law deprive us of the much-needed law that should have prevented the senseless killings by terrorists in the past. Newsline
