DAVAO CITY — Tightened monitoring on all cargoes and parcels led the Bureau of Customs (BOC) stationed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to uncover P3-million worth of illegals drugs.
The BOC NAIA in cooperation with the Port’s Anti-illegal Drugs Task Force (CAIDTF), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) seized various drugs such as Ecstasy and Kush Marijuana in air parcels at different warehouses in Pasay City.
Some 1,681 tablets of Ecstasy with an estimated street value of Php2,857,700 were found concealed inside a Microwave Oven, while 133 grams of Kush Marijuana with an estimated value at Php159,600 was found inside a Metal Toy Box. In sum, the seized Ecstasy and Marijuana have an aggregate value of Php 3,017,300.
Records show that the seized Ecstasy was shipped from Netherlands and consigned to a recipient from Quezon City while the intercepted Kush Marijuana was shipped from USA and consigned to a certain individual from Pasay City.
Both parcels were turned over to PDEA today, April 6, 2021, for case profiling and build up for possible violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) in relation to Section 119 (Restricted Importation) and Section1401 (Unlawful Importation) of Republic Act 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
BOC NAIA, PDEA, and NAIA-IADITG maintain its momentum against illegal drugs from as it intercepted Php 13.62 million worth of Shabu similarly concealed in a steamboat hotpot grill appliance.
In full support to Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s border control initiatives, BOC NAIA under Port District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan vowed to to be vigilant against against different modes of concealment of illegal drugs thru enhanced and improved profiling techniques, coupled with the active collaboration and partnership of PDEA and NAIA-IADITG.
