ZAMBOANGA CITY— Two women were arrested, and P1 million in illegal drugs were seized from them by members of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-9 (RDEU-9), who are on the trail of two rescued drug suspects in this city. –
Police Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified them as Armida Jul-Asri and her daughter-in-law, Zarmida Rajan, who were arrested around 11:30 a.m. Thursday at their residence in Barangay Mampang.
Ylagan said that Armida is the mother of Jonar Jur-Asri, 25, and Moner Jul-Asri, 24, who were allegedly rescued by their brother, who turned out to be a former policeman who has gone on absence without official leave (AWOL).
Ylagan said that Armida was anxious and “upon asking her the whereabouts of her two sons, Armida gave her sling bag to her daughter in-law, Zarmida” when the RDEU-9 personnel went to their residence.
He said the RDEU-9 personnel asked Armida to open her sling bag and it was found to be containing some 150 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P1,020,000, hence, they were immediately arrested.
Meanwhile, he said that manhunt operations continue to arrest Jonar and Moner, who were rescued by their brother around 4:47 a.m. Thursday in front of the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) in Barangay Sta. Catalina.
Jonar and Moner were arrested in an anti-drug operation around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Zambowood, this city.
Two RDEU-9 personnel, Police SSgt. Booby Judan and Police Cpl. Nicolo Leon Luna, II, were injured when they two were rescued by their brother, an ex-policeman.
Judan and Luna had brought Jonar and Moner to the ZCMC for a medico-legal examination and were about to leave when they were shot and wounded during the drug suspects’ dating rescue.– Nikolai Gonzalo
