DAVAO CITY —Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA (BOC NAIA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Interagency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) nabbed Kristopher Segumbang for claiming 622 grams of Ketamine “party drugs” worth Php3,110,000 during a joint controlled delivery operations in Caloocan City on May 17, 2021.
In a press release, the BOC said at around 2:00pm, Kristopher Segumbang, authorized representative of the consignee, a certain “Nick Dimagiba”, was arrested by the authorities for claiming the subject package.
The BOC records show that the subject package arrived last May 10, 2021 came from Malaysia, and was declared as “snacks”. The seized illegal drugs were initially discovered when its package was subjected to non-intrusive x-ray scanning by the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP NAIA) and K-9 sweeping.
Upon physical examination conducted by the Customs Examiner, it was found as 15 sachets of white coffee containing a total of 622 grams of Ketamine, which is classified as a dangerous drugs under the R.A. 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ketamine, also known as “Special K” or “K” was originally created as anesthetics but commonly abused as “party drugs” for its tranquilizing effects. It was included in the list of Dangerous Drugs by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) in 2005 under DDB Regulation No. 3.
Both the arrested claimant and seized illegal drugs are now in the custody of the PDEA for case building and criminal prosecution for violation of R.A. 9165 in relation to Section 1401 of the R.A. 10863 or Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
On May 11, 2021, BOC NAIA, PDEA, and NAIA-IADITG also apprehended two claimants of Ecstacy in Quezon City Postal Office.
The BOC vows that they will continue to pursue intensified and unrelenting campaign against illegal drugs with the PDEA and NAIA-IADITG to effectively curb the smuggling and trafficking of dangerous drugs.
