DAVAO CITY— A tribal chieftain of the Mandaya tribe and his two relatives were shot and killed by armed men who barged into a family compound in Caraga town, Davao Oriental, December 31, 2016.
Police identified the victim as Datu Copertino Banugan, 53, his younger brother Ramon, 44, and another relative identified only as Benny, in Barangay Poblacion.
Banugan is the tribal chieftain of Sangab, located within the boundaries of Caraga and Compostela valley province.
Davao Oriental police director Senior Supt. Harry Espela said they already recovered the van used by the suspects near the border of Caraga and Manay town but their identities remained unknown and the motive still to be established.
