Two killed in Zamboanga del Sur IED Blast

DAVAO CITY — Two individuals were killed in a powerful explosion at a beach resort in Barangay Lower Bayao, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, early Tuesday morning.

Initial reports from the Tukuran Municipal Police Station and the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office indicated that the victims were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a utility box of a motorcycle parked near a store belonging to AJ Resort.

Witnesses stated that the victims died instantly from the blast.

Authorities believe the homemade bomb was detonated remotely, possibly using a mobile phone. Philippine Army Commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido has directed the 1st Infantry Division to assist local police in investigating the incident.

The explosion occurred approximately five kilometers from the Tukuran municipal police station, as confirmed by local officials during live radio interviews.
