UPDATED! Tropical Depression Agaton

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Tropical Depression Agaton spared Caraga region, as it made a landfall in the Islands of Dinagat-Siargao at 1:am today, January 2.

The Tropical Depression made five landfalls: Socorro, Surigao del Norte (1am, January 2); Claver,  Surigao del Sur (1:15am); Jagna, Bohol (4a,); Santander, Cebu (5am) and; Bais City, Negros Oriental and is expected its 6th landfall in Palawan.

As of 11:00 in the morning today: Tropical depression  Agaton is spotted in the areas of Visayas and Palawan.

Agaton t is moving 170/km/hr west of Dumaguete City Negros Oriental.

But residents in the Island of the Visayas, parts of Mindanao, and Palawan should stay on alert for possible flash floods and landslides.

As it is now, Agaton slightly accelerated over the Bohol Sea but residents in Bohol says sun started to shine in some parts of the island.

In a bulletin issued 5 am on Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Agaton is already 95 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, now moving west at 25 kilometers per hour (km/h) from the previous 22 km/h at the time of landfall.

The PAGASA in its 11:am advisory posted:

Thunderstorm is affecting #NorthernSamar #Masbate including #TicaoIsland#Albay #Catanduanes #Romblon #OrientalMindoro and nearby areas, which may persist within 2 to 3 hours.

ORANGE WARNING LEVEL:#Biliran; #EasternSamar; #Samar; #Leyte; 
FLOODING IS THREATENING in low-lying areas and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas. 
YELLOW WARNING LEVEL:#SouthernLeyte
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE in low-lying areas and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas.

All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flash floods. Keep monitoring for updates.

The tropical depression has maximum winds of 55 km/h and gustiness of up to 90 km/h, also its strength when it hit land. (READ: EXPLAINER: How tropical cyclones form)

Signal number 1 is raised over:

Palawan including Cuyo Island
Bohol
Cebu
Siquijor
Guimaras
Negros Occidental
Southern Antique
Southern Iloilo

Sea travel is suspended in areas under signal number 1. It is also risky to venture out into the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and eastern and western seaboards of the Visayas due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

Based on its latest forecast track, Agaton will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Wednesday night, January 3, and Thursday morning, January 4.-Newsline.ph
