Wounded MSU student dies after 8 days of coma

ILIGAN CITY —– The 20-year old university freshman student, who was shot by unidentified gunman inside the campus on October 17, died after eight days on comatose.

Mindanao State University (MSU) freshman student Ivan Polinar Almeda, who hailed from Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, died at 10:28 Friday night, while confined at the intensive care unit in Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) in Marawi City.

Almeda, was walking with three female friends inside the vicinity of MSU commercial complex when he was attacked.

In his statement posted on the facebook page of the Office of Information, Press and Publication of MSU-Marawi, Habib Macaayong, MSU System President, said the whole university mourns the death of Almeda and share the grief of his family in equal measure.

The statement added, “It is a sad day for us MSUans. The shooting victim, IVAN ALMEDA, passed away last night despite desperate efforts to save him and the prayers of the community. Our only consolation is he is now in peace and spared further suffering and pain.”

Until now, the police and the military authorities have yet to identify the suspect.-Divina M Suson
