DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte — A young couple onboard a motorbike with the cadaver of their one-month-old baby were killed in an accident along the national highway in Leon Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte.

Major Anjelo Acuzar, the municipal police chief, said the victims, Ronald Canion, 33, and his partner Roxanne Dipolog, 23, were traveling from Ipil, Zamboanga del Norte, towards Barangay Labakid in Sindangan town when their motorbike was struck by another motorbike while traversing the slope of Barangay Delusom.

Due to the impact, the couple was thrown into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, resulting in a fatal collision. The couple died instantly from the severe injuries sustained in the crash.

Acuzar said the mother was still cuddling her dead baby when the rescuers arrived. It was not known, however, why the couple was allowed to carry the cadaver of their baby.

The site of the accident is known for its dangerous curves and steep incline, making it a hazardous area for motorists.

The family of the victims has not filed a formal complaint, as the owner of the pickup truck has committed to covering the burial costs of the deceased.

The local community remains in shock over the tragic incident, which highlights the dangers of the road conditions in the area.
