AGUSAN DEL NORTE – The 29th Infantry “Matatag” Battalion, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Cabadbaran City, successfully concluded the Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) from October 7 to October 9, 2023, at the Gymnasium in Brgy Del Pilar, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte. This event aimed to nurture the leadership abilities of the city’s youth while instilling qualities of resilience, responsibility, and entrepreneurship.

The YLS was a platform for empowering young minds, equipping them with essential tools to become influential leaders within their communities. The summit also underlined a commitment to creating a peaceful and prosperous environment and deterring recruitment efforts by groups such as the Communist-NPA-Terrorists (CNTs). It sought to ensure that the youth remain focused on positive paths for personal and community development.

Hon. Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante – Matba, the Governor of Agusan del Norte, emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in her statement: “It is essential that we first prioritize and think carefully before we make decisions in our lives. We should not blame the government for decisions that you made, and now you must face the consequences of your choices. Regardless of the difficulties faced in the world today, we should not forsake our government; instead, we should each strive to improve our lives.”

The event was attended by Lt. Colonel Cresencio C Gargar, Commanding Officer of 29IB, Hon. Crestin Joy Bermudez-Delos Reyes representing Hon. Judy Chin-Amante, Mayor of Cabadbaran City, and Hon. Acrecia D Camarin, Barangay Captain of Brgy Del Pilar. Brigadier General George L Banzon, Commander of 901st Brigade, graced the closing ceremony and delivered an inspiring message to the participants, emphasizing the critical role of molding future leaders. He underscored the significance of the youth’s knowledge, talents, and skills in effecting change in their respective communities. General Banzon concluded his speech with, “You are the hope of our nation; let us collaborate as young intellectuals to promote progress and order in our country. The Philippine Army is here to guide you, ensuring we are not swayed by the ideology of the NPA.”
