Zamboanga City dawn fire kills 1, demolish 250 houses

DAVAO CITY –— One person was killed while 250 houses were razed to the ground when the fire of still unkown origin broke off in the village of Asinan, Barangay Kasanyagan in Zamboanga City Monday dawn, February 20.

The fatality was identified as Morados Palos, a resident of the village.

The village of Asinan is along the coastline and houses are made of light materials.

Residents told Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) investigators they were in deep sleep when they felt the heat which prompted them to run for safety.

The residents left everything just to survive.

The Fire Bureau initially extimated the damages at P1.75-million pesos.

The city government of Zamboanga distribuuted food stuff and other relief goods to the affected families while the validation and assessment is still going on.

The affected residents are temporarily housed at the barangay gymnasium.-Eugene Hinutan
