Zamboanga Sibugay town councilor killed, driver hurt

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A municipal councilor was killed while his driver in critical condition when the two motorcycle-riding suspects shot them at around 1:10 in the afternoon on April 5, 2021.

Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the fatality as Councilor Alvarez Dammang, 45, of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Dammang’s driver, Alamsa Sabturani, 35, was wounded and in critical condition at the Mabuhay Municipal Health Unit.

Ylagan said that Dammang was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician of the medical facility.

Ylagan said that Dammang and Sabturani were riding their respective motorbikes towards Talusan town, but upon reaching Purok 1, Barangay Poblacion, Mabuhay town, the the two gunmen aboard a motorbike sprayed them with an M-16 Armalite rifle.

The suspects immediately fled towards Barangay Mahayay, Talusan.

The incident happened 40 days after Mabuhay Vice Mayor Restituto Calogne was gunned down while Edgar Pampanga, the municipal engineer, and Hadji Abduhari Gapor, a former town councilor were wounded.

Ylagan ordered the manhunt operations to identify the suspects in the killing of Dammang while the police has yet to identify the suspects behind the killing of Cologne.-Nikolai Gonzalo
