Zamboanga Sibugay Vice Mayor, Municipal Engineer shot dead

ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY— A lone gunman shot and instantly killed Mabuhay town Vice Mayor Restituto Calonge, of Zamboanga Sibugay province at around 3:00 pm Friday, February 26.

Mabuhay municipal Police Station chief PLT. Benjamin Cana, in an interview with Newsline.ph revealed that the Mayor along with municipal Engineer Edgar Pampanga and municipal employee Hadji Abduklhari Gapor, were sitting under a tent just fronting the municipal hall when the lone gunman walked in and fired his .45 caliber pistol against the victims.

Calonge was hit behind his head which caused his instantaneous death while Pampa who was hit under his armpit was brought to the nearby Rural Health Unit but passed away after hours while Gapor was immediately transferred to Ipil Hospital.

Cana revealed, that after firing his gun, the suspect casually left the crime scene towards his motorbike ang eft towards unknown direction.

The police are still investigating the circumstances behind the incident while the manhunt operation is ongpoing.-Zorayda Eva Mustaril & Expedita Roxas
