Zamboanga town councilor killed inside his residence

DAVAO CITY — The entire town of Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte, is in mourning after news broke that town Councilor Glecerio “Agong” Redillas was killed Thursday night at around 7:15 PM.

The incident occurred at his residence in Barangay Poblacion South, where an unknown assailant suddenly arrived and inflicted a fatal head injury on the victim. According to witnesses, a loud noise was heard, and Redillas fell to the ground.

CCTV footage revealed that Redillas was sitting near the window inside his residence when the assailant approached and carried out the act, leading to his untimely death. The suspect fled in an unknown direction immediately after the incident.

Redillas, a current town councilor, planned to run for re-election in the 2025 elections. He was a seasoned public servant known for his dedication to community service and his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.

Brigadier General Nicolas Torre, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), confirmed that the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Piñan is conducting an in-depth investigation into the motive behind the incident. Authorities are working to identify the individual responsible and ensure justice is served.

The news has sparked grief and sorrow in the community. Redillas’ family, supporters, and colleagues have called for swift action, urging law enforcement agencies to expedite the investigation.

The local government has condemned the incident and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of public officials and residents in the area.
