DAVAO CITY –— A rescued Philippine hawk-eagle (???????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????) was turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XIII on May 14, 2021.
In a press statement, the DENR Caraga stated that the eagle, locally known as “Lawin” was rescued by a concerned citizen from Sitio Maghilot, Bunawan Brook, Agusan del Sur on May 13, 2021 , immediately turned over the juvenile female raptor to a security guard at Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) , who in turned turned over the same to the DENR.

Upon initial assessment and observation by the Butuan City Veterinarian, Dr. Edgardo D. Talle, the bird has no signs of injury and considered to be in good condition. Further, Dr. Talle advised that the raptor must be acclimatized since it is tamed or imprinted based in its behavior.
DENR Caraga Regional Executive Director (RED) Nonito M. Tamayo visited the PMC and the turnover immediately took place.
The bird of prey is now placed in a cage at the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte for further observation and health assessment before its release back to the wild.
