ZAMBOANGA CITY – A joint operation involving the Naval Forces Western Mindanao through the Naval Task Force-61, composed of PG393, 1st Boat Attack Division, and Naval Intelligence operatives, in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Employment-BARMM, Ministry of Social Services and Development-BARMM, Women and Children Protection Center-Mindanao Field Unit, and other law enforcement agencies, resulted in the rescue of 123 victims of trafficking-in-persons.

The operation also led to the recovery of firearms and the confiscation of 10 grams of illegal drugs from a residence used by an alias “Jamang.” The seized evidence was turned over to CIDG Sulu for documentation and proper disposition.

The rescued victims, who hailed from Cebu and Bohol, were reportedly forced into spearfishing and compelled to use illegal drugs to endure the harsh working conditions.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the trafficking group, including the recruiters and handlers, along with alias “Jamang” and 15 other individuals, were armed with high-powered firearms. Due to early information circulation, the group fled the island, evading law enforcement.

The rescued victims are now under the custody of the Ministry of Social Services and Development-BARMM for documentation and necessary support.
