15 fisherfolks apprehended for illegal fishing

SANTA CRUZ, Davao Del Sur – Fifteen (15) fishermen here were apprehended in a joint operations at around 9:15 Wednesday night, May 31, for violating the fisheries law.

The local police accompanied the personnel from Municipal Fishery Law Enforcement unit during the raid at Barangay Zone IV, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur.

The police identified the fisherfolks as Ronelo, Arce, Antonio, Rowel, Henry ,Benjamin, Zaldy, Elorde, Mark, Isidro, Romy, Edwin ,Gemuel, Narciso and Leowel, all residents of Apo beach, Barangay Zone III. They are now at the police facility.

The fisherfolks were still aboard their fishing boat when the law enforcers arrived at the coastline.

They were apprehended for violating the Fisheries Code of the Philippines, for particularly using small-eyed fishing nets which can trap small fingerlings which is prohibited by law.

The boat was also confiscated, it will form part as court evidence.-Paul T. Palacio
