8-ear-old child beaten by drunken father for refusing to buy another bottle

DAVAO CITY — An 8-year-old boy is struggling for his life inside a hospital in General Santos City, after he was beaten by his drunken father on Tuesday night, January 23, in Barangay Fatima in General Santos City.

The suspect father of the child identified as Roy Canlaon, 34-years-old, a carpenter, has been detained in a detention facility at the General Santos City Police Office. In an interview with reporters on Wednesday, January 24, the father claimed he regrets what he did.

According to the police report, the father beat his son when he refused to buy him a drink because his father was already drunk, because he was drinking with his neighbors.

Eyewitnesses who were interviewed by members of the Fatima Police Station, they were slapped and beaten his father threw the boy to the ground several times, causing him to faint.

The child is now in a life support at the hospital.

Child abuse is a serious crime in the eyes of the law.
