Duterte asks broadcasters to help raise public awareness on significant issues

DAVAO CITY (August 15) — President Rodrigo R.  Duterte on Tuesday,  asked the officials of the country’s broadcast industry to help in raising public awareness  on significant issues.

Duterte made this appeal when he tendered  a dinner for the members and officials of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held at the Heroes Hall of Malacañan Palace.

During his speech, Duterte stressed “As we create an environment for our people to enjoy their freedom and cherish the gifts of democracy, I ask our friends from the broadcast media to continue helping the government in stimulating public awareness on vital issues that can touch the lives of ordinary Filipinos so that we can, in turn, help one another in collectively improving their lot in life.”

Among the KBP officials present were Herman Z. Basbaño-Vice-president of Bombo Radyo Philippines,  President; Ruperto Nicdao-president of  Manila Broadcasting Company, Chairman; Butch Canoy of RMN, Vice Chairman; Francis Cardona of Radyo Corporation Phils., Executive Vice President; Roberto Barreiro, Vice President for Television; Joselito Yabut-COO of Primax Broadcasting System, Corporate Secretary; and KBP directors Atom Henares and Erwin Galang.

The group thanked President Duterte for creating the Presidential Task Force on Media Security.

The Chief Executive signed on October 11, 2016 Administrative Order No. 1 which created the task force that is mandated to ensure a safe environment for media workers.
