ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat — A man landed in jail here for cracking a joke that he would set off another bomb while the pain and trauma caused by the twin bomb attacks last week are still fresh in the local people’s minds, police said.

Local police personnel, headed by Supt. Junny Buenacosa, arrested Antonio Salobre, 30, of Barangay Kalawag here Friday after he made the joke at the town’s public market.

He is facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1727 (Anti-Bomb Joke Law).

Buenacosa said the unpleasant “joke” violated a law and created fear among the residents who recently experienced twin bombings that claimed the lives of five people and injured 48 others.

Salobre, who was apologetic to authorities, is currently detained at the Isulan police station.

Meanwhile, school administrators, faculty and students of the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) offered prayers, lighted candles, released white balloons, and called for justice for Jan Mark Luda, 19, a freshman student of SKSU who died during the Sept. 3 bombing inside an Internet café.

They also offered prayers and extended their sympathies to the family of Jan Mark’s cousin, Marialyn Luda, 15, who died in a hospital in General Santos City a day after the incident.

Both victims, together with some 15 other injured individuals, were inside the Liezther James Internet café when the improvised explosive device went off. –PNA
