Regulatory board to operators of inns, motels and lodging houses: Comply with Children’s Welfare Code

October 25, 2018 by Althea Beatrice Caduaya Felizarta

Cagayan de Oro (Oct. 24)– The Cagayan de Oro Regulatory and Complaint Board warned operators of inns, motels, and lodging houses to comply with the city’s Comprehensive Children’s Welfare Code of 2018.

The establishments were checked by the Regulatory and Complaint Board (RCB) based on the notice of violations issued last September 28, due to reports on child trafficking and prostitution.

Based on the City Ordinance No. 13394-2018, otherwise known as the Cagayan de Oro Comprehensive Children’s Welfare Code of 2018, the  Regulatory and Complaint Board (“RCB”) was tasked to monitor and inspect Bars, Inns, Motels, Hotels, Resort s, and similar establishments.

“This is the second operation. Based on the results of our first inspection where we saw some violations, notices were issued and now, we have to check if there was any compliance,”  Atty. Egay Uy, head of the RCB said.

Uy, said the Regulatory and Compliance Board, has asked business establishment operators to comply with the regulation, otherwise, the non-compliance of the establishment will result to fine, temporary closure of business, revocation of permit/ permanent closure of business, among others.

“We don’t want them to go to the point thay they will be facing any charges. This is the reason why we encourage them to comply religiously.” Uy, said. “We do not want them to comply just for the sole purpose of compliance, because this is for the protection of minors,”he added.

Uy, reminded the public to cooperate or to report any incident of child trafficking and prostitution to the Regulatory and Compliance Board (RCB), City Social Welfare Development, (CSWD), and Philippine National Police (PNP).

“We should help each other because this child trafficking cases here in the lodging houses is a criminal offense,”  Uy emphasized.-  Hensell Hebaya/ NewsLine
