Seven areas in Mindanao still on signal 1; ‘Samuel’ approaches Leyte gulf

DAVAO CITY (November 20)– Tropical depression Samuel has slightly slowed down as it continues to approach the Leyte gulf area, PAGASA in its weather advisory update indicated.    It is however expected to make a landfall over the southern portion of Eastern Samar between 12 a.m and 2.am.

Samuel was last spotted 90 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.  It packs maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph), with gusts of up to 65 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 remains in some areas in Luzon and the Visayas and in seven areas in Mindanao, namely: Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.

Residents in these areas were advised to coordinate with their respective Disaster Response Unit in the local government on safety and other precautionary measures. –  Jiann Padillo/ NewsLine
