BTC Chairman and MILF Vice-chair Ghazali Jaafar dies

DAVAO CITY (March 13) — The Muslim community now mourns the passing of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) vice chairman and Bangsamoro Transition Commission chairman Ghazali Jaafar.

A NewsLine source revealed, Jaafar died while in confinement at the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC) in Davao City at about 1:00 this morning, March 13. Jaafar, 75, died due to lingering illness.

Despite his condition, he managed to attend the BTA oath taking on Fabruary 22 at MalacaƱan Palace.

He was nominated Speaker of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) .

Jaafar was known being a fighter and a peace advocate, one of the pillars of the Bangsamoro Community.

Former Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza in a Facebook post said “A sad day fpr us all with the passing of MILF Vice Chair Ghazalli Jaafar and chairman of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission which successfully brought the Bangsamoro Organic Law into reality. May he rest in eternal peace.”

Jaafar was MILF’s vice-chair for political affairs.

On July 26, 2018, Jaafar was thankful to President Rodrigo Duterte for signing the BOL, which he considered a big leap to their dream of attaining a lasting peace in Mindanao.

His remains will be brought home to Sitio Tapuken, Barangay Pigcalagan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, where he will be buried in Muslim rites.-Taher G. Solaiman/NewsLine.ph
