Floods hit Sarangani, NoCot

COTABATO CITY – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of North Cotabato warned residents leaving in danger zones like areas near creeks and rivers and flood-prone areas to stay alert with the onset of the rainy season.

Torrential rains were experienced in some Mindanao cities and provinces. The rain on Wednesday, June 5 caused knee-deep waters in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

“In fact, some areas in the province, particularly the low-lying towns of Kabacan, Matalam, and Tulunan have experienced knee-deep floods on Wednesday night,” Engr. Arnulfo Villaruz, North Cotabato PDRRMO officer said in a radio interview Thursday.

A 10-year-old-boy, Edmart Nacua, was hurt when a huge coconut tree toppled by strong winds fell on their house In Barangay New Cebu, President Roxas, North Cotabato.

Low-lying villages of Kidapawan City were also flooded as creeks and drainage canals overflowed.

In General Santos City, five houses were reported damaged as flashfloods spawned by torrential rains swept portions of Sarangani province.

The floods hit portions of Malungon town and several barangays here after over two hours of heavy rains triggered by localized thunderstorms and the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Four other nearby houses, all made of light materials, owned by the Mayunggi and Tango families sustained partial damages as a result of the incident.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also recorded flooding in Barangay Sinawal and the neighboring areas due to the heavy rains. (with PNA reports)
