DAVAO ORIENTAL – Local and national government employees in Davao Oriental along with and some private individuals, offered shared life-saving blood to highlight their support in time for the 52nd founding anniversary of the province.
The bloodletting activity was held at the Provincial Capitol Covered Court, the event was spearheaded by the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC), in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross of Davao Oriental.
The province was able to collect 21 blood units during the activity.
Ofelia Mendiola, OIC Chief Medical Technologist of DOPMC, said that they hoping to collect more bloods in the next bloodletting activity which is still to be scheduled. She said they were expecting 50 to 100 blood donors to participate in their cause.
Mendiola said that they will hold different bloodletting activities before the year ends, to respond to the needed blood especially during emergencies.
The collected units will be deposited in the provincial blood bank.
“We do not run out of blood in our blood banks, except for lean months, such as January and December. That is why we are really encouraging everyone to donate blood because they will never know how many lives they can save in such a simple act,” Mendiola revealed.
She added that every healthy individual who are of legal age can donate blood as long they have not consumed alcohol days prior to donating blood.-Riza Golez/PIODavOr
