Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte prohibits the sale of liquors, alcoholic beverages, coconut wine and other natural wines that can use intoxication from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m.
Executive No. 14 was signed by the mayor on March 18. 2020 and took effect immediately and will last until the state of a public health emergency is lifted.
The EO is an order temporarily prohibiting the selling or serving of liquors, alcoholic beverages, coconut wide and other nature wines and the like that cause intoxication from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Duterte’s EO is in pursuant to the declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency in the entire country due to the Covid-19 threat.
She issued the EO following observations that selling, serving and consumption of liquors and other similar other intoxicating drinks encourage close contact among people thereby defeating the objectives of the community quarantine.
Davao City Ordinance No. 004-13, series of 2013 stipulates that the liquor ban is from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The effectivity of the liquor ban was changed under the Duterte’s EO considering the urgent need to impose measures to protect the public from Covid-19.
The mayor earlier issued an order that mandates people to stay in their homes and may only come out to work, buy food or medicines, go to the hospital or take our garbage, prohibits mass gathering and observe social distancing.
