DAVAO CITY — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte revealed on Wednesday night that Davao Region extends the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until April 26.

The ECQ is supposed to end on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Health authorities also reported 11 new cases in the region.

This means all types of transport– air, land, and sea are still suspended. But for those who want to get out of the region, they can leave but cannot return until the ECQ is lifted.

In an interview with DCDR, Duterte-Carpio in her opening statement said, “Unfortunately I am a bearer of bad news, karong gabhiona, Davao Region Inter-Agency COVID-Task Force, attended by all governors and based on presentation and explanation of the Department of Health, we need to extend ECQ in Davao region”.

She said the need to implement an extended region-wide ECQ “because if we work together as a region nindot ang effect sa number of patients, mao na ang desisyon”.

Meantime, the City Government has extended financial support to about 206 stranded Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are affected by the ECQ.

The extended ECQ means, “one and a half incubation period”, she added.

For Davao City, the mayor said the second round of food ration will start on Monday.

On the other hand, Duterte is putting her P2.1 million one year salary in a trust fund for the frontliners of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Duterte’s decision came after Dr. Leopoldo Vega, chief of SPMC, disclosed that 12 of 300 medical workers at the state-run hospital have been infected with the virus.

Vega said 10 of the 12 infected health workers have been discharged while the remaining two were still confined at the SPMC with mild symptoms.– NewsLine
