DAVAO CITY –— An undetermined number of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked a military checkpoint at around 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday wounding two soldiers in Sitio Kaapihan, Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District this city.

A video circulating in the social media showed a scared woman asking for help as gun burst seems just near their house.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in a statement condemned the attack.

In a statement, the Mayor said “The New People’s Army has once again shamelessly exposed itself as the devil incarnate when it attacked soldiers in Sitio Kapihan, Barangay Malabog in Paquibato District Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

It added saying, “the terroristic attack came days after it announced, along with the Communist Party of the Philippines, that it was extending its self-declared ceasefire to April 30 — that we can only say now as a total sham”.

“The cowardly attack, which was carried out with the use of a bomb, only proved that the NPA, the CPP, and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines are truly the enemy of the people and the government,” the statement elaborated.

The Mayor further said, “the two soldiers from the 16th IB were wounded during the attack. We condemn this attack as this happened at a time when we are supposed to be working together against Covid-19. We can clearly expect nothing from the NPA — not even the slightest compassion for the people. It cannot even feign concern”.

“For the NPAs, what’s important is death, destruction, and taking over the government. We call on the public to reject the NPA, work together and strongly resist its perverted political agenda, and drive them completely out of our communities.” Duterte-Carpio said.

DavaoeƱos condemned the attack saying the rebels were just adding misery to the hapless condition of people who are already suffering from the coronavirus pandemic.-Newsline
