One of Davao’s finest police officers is now faced with a challenging job after getting promotion to a star position.

Police General Alexander C. Tagum, the former Davao City Police Director is now the chief of the country’s Highway patrol Group (HPG).

His appointment did not surprise Davaoeños especially the people in his roots, in Kidapawan City as they know pretty well how this guy works and his attitude towards it is exemplary, as his superiors and subordinates would often say.

The HPG whose office constantly hit headlines either because of traffic congestion of men accused of mulcting motorist but their rain or shine work in patrolling the highways is next to forgotten because of some bad eggs in the organization.

Davao people knows for whom and how General Tagum works — this silent guy, who always prefer the hindsight rather than the limelight is now at the helm of a gargantuan task ahead.

Accepting such post is more of a challenge than an accolade I suppose.

I had a chance to talk to him online and asked him what is in store for the general public?

The vision, “ I will effect some changes in the present HPG set up, which is geared towards the enhancement of its delivery of our primary mandate, that is security and safety of our National Highways,” he said.

He wowed to “Ensure our maximum contribution in the Presidential directive for the maintenance of the smooth flow of traffic in EDSA”.

Asked about the challenge ahead of him and how he will deal with it?

The General from Kidapawan City said, “The challenges are enormous considering the present situation brought about by the CoviD 19 pandemic that drains our manpower, but eventually, with the support and cooperation of our Leaders, Stakeholders and People, we shall prevail”.

Tagum rose from the ranks but the way he works always resemble how his heart situates in a given task.

For General Tagum, the public does not only expect the easement of EDSA traffic congestion, they also expect clean and genuine service from his men.
