MANILA â€“ The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday said it has received reports that 12 persons remain missing in Catanduanes due to Typhoon Quinta.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal said they are now looking into the “details of this matter” and they have yet to receive reports of deaths and other casualties.

He added those missing are fisherfolk from Barangay Pananogan, Bato; Barangay Cagdarao, Panganiban; and Barangay Poblacion District III, Gigmoto in Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, there are now 2,475 families or around 9,235 persons affected by the typhoon. They are mostly from Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa), the Bicol Region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

He added that 1,503 families or 5,704 persons are now staying in 33 evacuation centers.

Also, Timbal said preemptive evacuations were reported in these regions.

“(Some) 3,254 persons or 968 families were also evacuated but opted to stay in other places outside the flood, landslide, storm-surge, lahar-prone areas, usually with their other relatives,” Timbal said.

Power interruptions were also experienced in Quezon, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon.

Timbal added that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has responded to a sinking incident off the waters of Batangas.

“We have received a report from the Regional DRRMC in Calabarzon where a vessel sank off Bauan, Batangas. The PCG substation in Bauan deployed a search and rescue team at 7 a.m. today and seven crew members were rescued from the MV Oceanic Explorer 3. However, an eighth crew member has yet to be found,” he said in Filipino.

He added that they are waiting for updates on the incident. PNA
