ASG member killed in Basilan encounter

ISABELA CITY, BASILAN — A member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf group was killed in an encounter yesterday at about 4:00 in the afternoon in Barangay Felang, Ungkaya Pukan, in this province.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. identified the ASG member as alias Botak.

Vinluan claimed that Botak, a known follower of the late ASG leader Furuji Indama, was killed during the five-minute firefight with the soldiers from 44th IB.

According to Joint Task Force Basilan Commander Col. Domingo Gobway, his troop recovered one M60 machine gun, and one motorcycle at the clash site. -Richard G. Falcatan
