DAVAO CITY — Eastern Visayas lost one of its treasured frontliners in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic in a road accident on Saturday, December 12.
A report from Kananga Municipal Police Station showed that the accident happened at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, along the national highway of Montebello village in Kananga town.
Police identified the fatality as Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMCC) chief medical technician Virgilio ‘Bong’ Hubilla Jr., 57 chief medical technologist and a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Tanauan, Leyte.
Three vehicles figured in the crash one of which is the vehicle of Hubilla, while two others were a Mitsubishi Expander, going to Ormoc City, and an Isuzu Elf truck.
Hubilla was assigned at the COVID-19 Testing Center of EVRMC.
Police initial investigation disclosed that Hubilla was aboard his car on his way to Tacloban City. His driver, Bienvenido Menoc, 29, tried to overtake a truck and attempted to evade an oncoming vehicle driven by Gregorio Buñales, a 61-year old priest, but hit a parked dump truck.
Hubilla was rushed to the Kananga Municipal Hospital where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival. –Taher Solaiman/ Newsline
